“However, there is no reason to believe that we need the death penalty to deter future murderers.” (Reiman, 505) “The evidence we have strongly supports the idea that we get the same level of deterrence from life imprisonment as we do from substantial prison sentences, such as twenty years without parole.” (Reiman, 505) He believes that abstaining from capital punishment, such as the death penalty, will bring more benefits to society than using the death penalty. This means that people should take their time and really contemplate the crime they committed. Giving the death penalty would not really mean giving them the opportunity to justify what they did and try to correct their mistakes.
