Teenagers who use social media a lot tend to have poor time management skills; they spend too much time on social media and forget about tasks. “When alerted to new social networking site activity… it takes users, on average, twenty to twenty-five minutes to return to the original activity.” (ProCon.org). Many social network users are easily distracted when they receive a new notification on social media. Many teenagers suffer from ADHD, also known as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, which means they already have a shorter attention span. When large numbers of children and adolescents suffer from this disorder, social media increases the risk. Today's teenagers are so addicted to social media that they spend a lot of time on the sites. “40% of kids ages eight to eighteen spend 54 minutes a day on social media sites” (ProCon.org). So basically, on average teens spend at least an hour a day on social media. That's a lot of time they could use doing something else. “…According to a study conducted by online PhDs, students spend approximately 100 minutes a day on Facebook” (Wang, Chen, Liang). Is this only on the social networking site Facebook and other sites like Twitter or Instagram? The time students waste could be doing something about the lower grades they have due to social problems
