ICT stands for information and communication technology. In educational institutions, ICT is a set of tools designed to assist teachers and students in all areas of the curriculum. ICT, when used correctly, attempts to improve achievement, motivation and thinking in all subjects when used as learning tools. ICT allows the student to represent and build his own understanding from the large amount of information at his disposal. Students would incorporate ICT to reflect, investigate, manage and access information to create ideas and evaluations that could be communicated to others. As the knowledge society continues to grow at a rapid pace, emerging technologies continue to be introduced and refined. Many schools and communities are able to access a wider choice of ICT tools and therefore have increasing opportunities to promote quality education with and through ICT. Because the nature of ICT is interactive and dynamic, it has the potential to effectively meet the needs of the individual student by providing opportunities to direct his or her learning and complete homework and pursue and understand information in ways that meet his or her needs and interests. As educators it is important for teachers to recognize the significance and importance of the emerging technological learning style that students are also becoming accustomed to, which is the “click and go” generation. This new student will be technology savvy, obtain most information electronically, use computers, interact socially with others via email or the Internet, and understand how to communicate information through the integration of various technologies. Through the use of ICT, teachers……middle of paper……teaching and learning model towards a self-directed and independent learning model that encourages critical thinking and creativity with independent inquiry. Students are expected to collect, select, analyse, organise, extend, transform and present knowledge using ICT in an authentic and active learning model. Teachers are expected to create a new flexible and open learning environment with an interactive, experiential and multimedia delivery system. The incorporation of ICT would help teachers and students communicate and collaborate without boundaries, empower students, and enable teachers to bring the whole world into classroom activities. Ultimately, it is important to understand the role of ICT in this classroom as it would promote positive educational changes in student learning but also create a much more effective classroom and learning environment..
