Among the beautiful flowering and scent of amaranth, lavender, acadia and the most precious fumes that have ever been perceived lies the story of a gifted boy - murderer in Heart . Patrick Süskind's novel "Perfume" was published in 1985 and, in my opinion, is one of the most imaginative and eccentric stories I have ever read. This genre-crossing novel is one of the most successful German publications of the 20th century together with the novels of Erich Maria Remarque and some twenty years later – in 2006 Tom Tykwer adapted the story of Grenouille for the cinema. For a brief summary of the plot – the story is based in eighteenth century Paris, where an orphan named Jean-Baptiste Grenouille grows up. For a long time he doesn't learn to speak and even if he doesn't have a natural smell he just needs to smell the environment and let all the smells of the world pass through him. The reason it is so difficult for him to blend in with people or at least blend in properly is because of his remarkable and unusually keen sense of smell - and it is not an unnatural sign of him to detect odors in things that average people would see. don't think you have perfume at all. While training to be a perfumer, Grenouille is determined to create the utopian perfume that could put him in God's place. However, the "perfect perfume" in his eyes is created with the smells of thirteen virgin girls as it is the only way to preserve and get their natural smells. Patrick Süskind, the author of this exceptional novel, reveals the story little by little without losing sight of the control of the intense and intensified thoughts, feelings and expressions of his protagonist Grenouille, without forgetting to fill the story with immense descriptions of various scents and smells...... middle of paper...... believe that the film is an excellent supplement to the book, even with its imperfections, and I have certainly seen much worse and deceptive adaptations of a book. I personally have come across beautiful verses and phrases from "Perfume" that could be used as charming everyday quotes and most probably my book specimen has more highlighted pages than plain pages just because I can connect these underlined quotes with some period of time of my life, and very often I want to read some pages again and again to inspire or just to get that delicious feeling and goosebumps and the same goes for the movie – I could find some quotes that were not taken from the book only because monologues and dialogues were missing. In the film there were moments that you can watch over and over again and still you will not get bored with either the acting or the same placement.
