The contrast between Adam and Eve, the old man and the old woman The Indian myth of Chewing Blackbones entitled "The old man and the old woman" is very similar to the famous story of creation of "Adam and Eve" from the Christian Bible that some readers see them as essentially the same. I don't, and careful examination reveals that the two stories differ in very important ways. The Indian myth "The Old Man and the Old Woman" begins like this: "Long, long ago, there were only two people in the world: the Old Man and the Old Woman" (538). At the beginning of the Christian creation story, the two characters, Adam and Eve, are also the only two people in the world. The feature I found that shows a difference between story openings is the presence of God in “Adam and Eve.” I noticed that in the Indian version of Chewing Blackbones there are no third parties. Indian myth does not explain how the Old Man and the Crone were created; it simply states that there were two people in the world, the Old Man and the Old Woman.
