It cannot be done alone, even if along with radiotherapy there is also surgery or chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to destroy cancer cells. Chemotherapy usually stops cancer cells from growing and dividing. Furthermore, it is not used alone in treatment, but is used with surgery or radiation therapy. There are many side effects of chemotherapy which include; fatigue, risk of infections, nausea and vomiting, hair loss, loss of appetite and diarrhoea. When my mother was diagnosed with thymoma, the treatment she received was chemotherapy. My suggestion to those who are being treated for any type of cancer is to be careful because sometimes, even though chemotherapy is a treatment, it can also kill because chemotherapy not only destroys the bad cells but also the good ones that fight. I remember when my mother told me “Chemotherapy is killing me more than cancer”. That's when he stopped receiving treatment and felt better. He still had the side effects of cancer, but they weren't as bad as those of chemotherapy. I think some people are better off fighting the disease on their own. My mother survived cancer for 6 years and I feel that if she had continued chemotherapy and tried to fight the disease she would have lost the battle earlier.
