Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites and has become part of the daily routine of most college students. This has led researchers to wonder whether students' use of this networking site affects their academic outcomes. This literature review will examine and synthesize currently published research regarding the impact of Facebook on the academic performance of college students. Although most studies are inconclusive in determining the relationship between Facebook and academic performance, all researchers contribute to understanding how Facebook might influence students' academic performance. While some studies hypothesize that Facebook does not influence academic achievement, most studies show that there is a significant relationship between Facebook use and college student academic performance, which is indicated by GPAs and student engagement. Minor Research on the impacts of Facebook on academic performanceFew research has found that there is no relationship between Facebook and the academic performance of college students. For example, Sana Rouis examines that Facebook has no significant effect on student achievement (296). In his research, he interviewed a large group of 203 college students and used two different types of data analysis (298). Focusing on the same type of participants, Syarif Husin Lubis et al. also found that there is no difference between Facebook users and non-users in terms of academic performance (590). Although Lubis et al. they interviewed a smaller number of participants, their research is more in-depth than that of Rouis because it uses more control variables (591). Furthermore, unlike Rouis, Lubis et al. are more detailed in their research by examining...... half of the paper ......age (CGPA) among third year biomedical sciences students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UKM."
