Topic > How my interest in knowledge began - 1227

Some of my earliest memories are of being told not to ask so many questions. I wasn't curious about why the clouds were there or what created the rainbows. I wanted to know why people portrayed certain behaviors. What caused one person to behave differently from another? Why did one family manage to cope with so much turmoil in their life while another family fell apart? I would ask all sorts of questions. This behavior became so prevalent in me that people said, “Oh no, here are his 50 questions.” My interest in personalities increased as I grew up. I wanted to know if they were formed based on our past experiences, our environment, or if they were completely biological. I have read many accounts of identical (monozygotic) twins growing up in different families. I concluded that it was a combination of biology, experiences, and environment that created our personalities and habits. This knowledge piqued my interest and led me to investigate societies at the macro and micro levels. I focused most of my reading on the topics of poverty, drug use, and the underprivileged. I have been familiar with these fields since I was a teenager and began to question many of these topics in my life. My curiosity led me to research why a very small percentage of people escape poverty and drug abuse while another percentage does not. I wondered what the differences were between the two populations that cause one to leave and the other to remain in those situations. Most individuals grew up in the same environment. The deciding factor had to be a difference in their biological elements or their past experiences. During my research using biographies or documentaries I began to notice the constant pre...... middle of paper .......The Medical Sociology course piqued my interest in helping those who, throughout their lives, suffer from health-related problems. Today the need for social workers in this specialty is enormous. Healthcare laws are constantly evolving. Through various researches, new technologies are formed and numerous new treatment options become available to people. We need social workers who can connect older adults and their families to community resources, new treatments and vital information. My goal is to help people understand that they are not alone in whatever situation or event arises in their life. There are resources available and other people who have similar experiences. Someone understands. Everyone can and is capable of living a vibrant and healthy life. It's okay to ask questions, express feelings, and enjoy who I am throughout my life.
