"King addressed the huge late afternoon crowd of more than 250,000 people" (Garrow). The civil rights movement reached its peak in the 1950s and 1960s. People like Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm “The Black Panthers Platform,” by: Alexander Bloom and Wini Brienes, is a book that helps shed light on what black communities wanted and show what daily life was like for an African American under a racist government. The theme of this book is to fight for what brings justice and equality to people so that they can have the opportunity to be treated fairly. The demands of the civil rights movement are reported in the “Black Panther Platform”. The theme of the literature was to clearly state what was required of them and those people. The Black Panthers wanted the opportunity to determine for themselves the destiny they believed would set them free. The black community will not stop rebelling against the system until they get what they want, dogs, fire hoses and cops can't stop the spirit of what is deserved. They never stopped believing in their goals, they clearly stated what they wanted and what they deserved. “We believe that black people should not be forced to fight in military service to defend a racist government that does not protect us” (Bloom……half of document……I will have a long way to go before racism is no longer a problem.
