Nicholas Winton is the man who started the organization of the Kindertransport and is responsible for saving numerous lives. On board the trains it was very cramped, space was limited and food and water were rationed according to availability. Children had to be under 18 to ride, and parents or guardians were not allowed to ride. Overall, there were a very small amount of newborns on board the trains. Those few involved were looked after by the older children on board the trains. The first transports left Harwich, Great Britain on December 1, 1938 and from Vienna on December 10, 1938. The last transports left Germany on September 1, 1939 and the Netherlands on May 14, 1940. For parents, I send the distance of their children It devastated them, but they knew that in the end their children would be much better off and in a safer environment. The children were afraid of leaving their parents behind, but they knew they would go to a much better place. At the end of the walks, the children were handed over to the chosen families who promised to take care of them and provide for all their needs.
