Topic > How knowledge and technology relate to organization…

The organizational function of management is concerned with activities that result in the formal assignment of tasks and authorities and the coordination of efforts. Management staffs the work unit, trains employees, protects resources, and transforms the work group into a productive team. Organizing is the managerial function of organizing people and resources to work toward a goal. The goals of the organization include, but are not limited to, determining the tasks to be performed to achieve the objectives, dividing tasks into specific tasks, grouping jobs into departments, specifying relationships and authority ratios, delegating the authority necessary for the carry out tasks and assign and distribute resources in a coordinated manner. These resources are what make an organization function as a single cohesive entity. Physical, monetary, human resources, knowledge, and technology are great examples of resources that help build the foundation of the organization. Knowledge and technology are two in particular that go hand in hand during the organizational processes of managing a company. Circuit City is a great example of an organization where knowledge and technology play a vital role in how management works. Especially in the information age we currently find ourselves in, these combined resources help not only the company's employees but also the customers who shop in our stores. As a Fortune 500 company and one of the nation's leading suppliers of consumer electronics, Circuit City is committed to providing value to investors, businesses, and consumers (Circuit City, 2006). When the company first opened its doors to the public in 1949, it wanted to provide the community......middle of paper......ogy. Sure, it's possible that if that e-learning system wasn't available to us, employees could have looked it up on the Internet and discovered it, but the resource in the store is specifically geared towards employees so that it can be properly learned, explained, and used; by employees and then, ultimately, by customers. This explains why technology and knowledge resources work together when trying to form that structure to make the organization stronger and make it a profitable business. Through the knowledge and technology provided to employees through the channels of the management organizational function, Circuit City has proven to provide it to the community and this is a reason why customers purchase from the company.REFERENCESCircuit City, 6 /16/2006http:/ /www.circuitcity.com/ccd/lookLearn.do?cat=-13317&edOid=105485&c=1
