The Meanness of the Rich Exposed in the Stolen Party In Liliana Heker's story, "The Stolen Party", Senora Ines invited Rosaura to the party for one reason only, to serve. Rosaura was a very intelligent girl in school, but she lacked intelligence towards people. Mrs. Ines told Rosaura that she would be a guest there, but she tricked Rosaura into becoming a helper instead of a guest. Senora Ines needed Rosaura to help at the party, so she tricked Rosaura into making her duties seem like they were privileges. Senora Ines' ambiguity ultimately devastated poor, innocent Rosaura. Rosaura was an intelligent but naive girl. Heker tells us that "she was just nine years old and one of the best in her class" (1133). But as his mother, Herminia, says, “You go away believing any nonsense that is told to you” (Heker 1133). Rosaura felt like Lucinda, but for Mrs. Ines she is nothing more than the maid's daughter, another pair of hands. Rosaura wanted a better life than her mother and thought this could be the first step in that direction. Mrs. Ines was very secretive in her true intentions....
