Shopping Centers As industrialization transformed the farm into a factory, department stores were invented and advertising emerged. This has caused consumerism to become a fundamental basis of our culture. If consumerism had become a religion, its temple would probably be shopping malls. Shopping malls have emerged as the central institution of our modern consumer culture. Its environment is full of advertisements and attractions that bring the consumer's soul into the world of “temptation to buy”. The following essay will analyze the techniques malls use to keep customers inside, why different malls appeal to different people, and the influence they have on the landscape of their community. Shopping malls use many different techniques to attract consumers and make them purchase their merchandise. These techniques are very evident while walking in shopping malls. The shopping experience can become so enjoyable when it takes place in a “natural space”. For this reason, shopkeepers have set up shopping centers as if they were parks with trees, flowers, fountains and benches. Shoppers then feel like they naturally belong there and have a desire to stay longer and socialize. Cafés, restaurants and snack bars are also included in the area and allow people not only to "hang out" but also to consume during a break from shopping and shopping. Nurseries and playgrounds are also provided so that parents can leave their young children and shop with a clear mind and perhaps shop more easily and without distractions. A well-known example of a decorated shopping center is Carrefour Laval, where the scenes and backdrops are constantly renewed depending on the season, current holidays and fashion trends. Shopping centers often t...... middle of paper ... ...in the city center rather than in the countryside suburbs. Shopping centers exert a great influence on the landscape of their community as they attract more people to both work and shop. If the shopping center is successful because it generates a lot of sales and profits, it causes the economy and consumption of the society to increase enormously. In conclusion, the consumerism movement is expanding a lot in our daily lives. When we enter a shopping center we realize that all the techniques that shopkeepers use to attract and retain us work perfectly and we are not even aware of it. Every aspect of the mall, from its location to its decor, is well planned and is specifically designed to generate the maximum possible sales. People should pay more attention to what they see, because advertising is not always perfectly true.
