Microsoft Encarta Dictionary defines greed as "an overwhelming desire to have more of something such as money than you actually need." This definition cannot be disputed as it is clear and simple and provides the essence of the word. But for millions, perhaps billions of people, greed is something else. Some people describe greed as an evil, selfish, and corrupt quality. While these views may be partially true, greed cannot be condemned as merely having escaped Pandora's box. We agree that greed is the pursuit of actions driven by rational self-interest. This means that anything outside of food and water acquired at the expense of anyone else, no matter how little is affected, can be defined as greed. Greed is a driving force behind the world's well-being; all attempts to eliminate greed from humanity have turned out to be disasters. Almost all inventions today and in the past are the result of greedy people. Most jobs and companies are created because of greed as it is a motivator and pushes people to try to do their best. It is greed that encourages the consumer to purchase the best product at the lowest price, thus creating market forces that help eliminate inefficiency and waste. Greed is an asset to humanity, a tool that some are better able to embrace and thrive than others. Greed, being a key human condition, has shaped society since the beginning. In fact, some scholars believe that greed was the first cornerstone of human success, when the first human wondered why he had to scavenge for necessities; It's a part of being human to be greedy. Wanting a new car, being loved by another, or desiring the feeling of doing well when feeding the needy, these are all factions of greed... middle of the paper... provider and consumer, for both must accept a set of terms to complete a successful exchange. It follows that greed is responsible for creating market forces that create and maintain fairness, efficiency and consequently optimal use of resources. Greed is a natural consequence of trying to get the most with the least. Since the beginning, humans have been greedy to the point that it is now part of being human to be greedy. There is no person on Earth who has never been greedy and never will be. The first person to walk on this planet without ever being greedy will no longer be human. Greed is valuable to ourselves, to society, and to our species. Human beings behave like a swarm, when everyone follows their own personal interests; We seem to be following an organized pattern. From chaos comes perfect order. An order governed solely by greed.
