In case they are the same, both Danny and Reuven learn a lot from their father and learned their religious views from their father. For Danny, he comes from a long line of Hasidic rabbis which most likely also led to his upbringing as a Hasidic Jew. Danny learned his religious stance from his father just as Reuven learned his religious viewpoint as a Zionist from his father. When Reuven is excommunicated from speaking to Danny and their family, Reuven grows even closer to his father and really takes the initiative to push for the Jewish homeland, just as Danny obeys his father's commands and stays away from the help creation. Although Danny and Reuven are similar in the sense that they learn their Jewish traditions from their father, they are also different in the sense that they were raised differently. Danny grew up in silence, as Reb Saunders believes in "speaking through the silence". Danny's father hasn't spoken to Danny in four years. Reb speaks through his wife and Reuven or even through other people. Reb Saunders explains why he decided to do this when he talks to Reuven and Danny towards the end of the film
